Miguel A. Riquelme Alarcon Appointed Regional Director/Latin America of the International Copper Association, Ltd.


New York, NY (June 2003) - Miguel A. Riquelme Alarcon has been appointed as Regional Director for Latin America of the International Copper Association, Ltd. (ICA). Riquelme replaces Pablo Botteselle.

Mr. Riquelme brings extensive executive experience in the Latin American metals industry, having held senior management positions with manufacturing companies in Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Venezuela. "We are delighted that Mr. Riquelme is joining the ICA Network. His experience and skills will strengthen the ICA Network to the benefit of our members and the industry at large." said Francis J. Kane, President of the ICA.

As Regional Director in Latin America, Mr. Riquelme will be responsible for developing markets for the use of copper through implementation of the ICA’s strategic plan, working with copper producers, fabricators and end-users, both in Latin America, and the global marketplace.

Mr. Riquelme has spent most of his career at Phelps Dodge Wire and Cable Company (PDW&C), where his most recent position was Senior Vice President. Prior to that, Riquelme held other executive positions with various Phelps Dodge subsidiaries, notably President of ALCAVE, Valencia, Venezuela; President, PDW&C-ALCOA Brazil; General Manager-COCESA/COCETEL, Chile; and Director General of CONELEC in Mexico.

Riquelme holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Accounting from the Commercial Institute in Santiago, Chile, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University Adolfo Ibañez in Santiago, Chile. In addition, Mr. Riquelme is a CPA and Auditor, having earned that certification at the University of Santiago.

Headquartered in New York, ICA has regional offices in Brussels, New York, Santiago, and Singapore. The Association's 37 members represent about 80% of the world’s refined copper output and are among the largest copper producers, fabricators, and wire and cable companies.
