Baker Appointed Director, Environment Program of the International Copper Association, Ltd.


New York, NY (June 16, 2003) - SCOTT R. BAKER, Ph.D., has been appointed Director, Environment Program of the International Copper Association, Ltd. (ICA). Baker replaces Dr. Christopher M. Lee who died after a long illness.

Prior to joining ICA in 1997, Dr. Baker conducted research and held senior positions with several health agencies including the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the latter as Science Advisor to the Assistant Administrator for Research and Development.

"We are extremely pleased that Scott Baker now leads this important program for the ICA," said Francis J. Kane, President, and to whom Dr. Baker will report. "Scott has been instrumental in establishing a credible and authoritative voice for the ICA among the regulatory and scientific communities."

As Director, Environment Program at the ICA, Dr. Baker will oversee management of research in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia to advance ICA’s standing as the premier foundation of peer-reviewed, sound science to address environmental and health issues related to copper. The ICA will strengthen its position as the key center of excellence for the environmental stewardship of copper products and scientific support for responsible regulation worldwide.

Dr. Baker holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry and toxicology from the University of Manitoba, Canada, and a Ph.D. in toxicology from Iowa State University.

The ICA is the leading organization for promoting the use of copper globally, inspiring the world about copper's essentiality for health, technology, and the quality of life. Headquartered in New York, ICA has regional offices in Brussels, New York, Santiago, and Singapore. The Association's 37 members represent about 80% of the world’s refined copper output and are among the largest copper producers, fabricators, and wire and cable companies.
