Bittencourt Named Director, Sustainable Electrical Energy for the International Copper Association, Ltd.
New York, NY (June 16, 2003) - ANTONIO SERGIO VIEIRA AVELAR BITTENCOURT has been named Director, Sustainable Electrical Energy (SEE) Program for the International Copper Association, Ltd. (ICA). Bittencourt replaces John Mollet who has been appointed as Vice President at the ICA.
Mr. Bittencourt has held senior engineering and executive management positions in the United States, Sweden, India, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil, most recently with ABB Ltda. in São Paulo, Brazil, where he was General Manager for Substations and Distribution Systems.
"We are most fortunate to have Sergio join our executive team," said Francis J. Kane, President. "Sergio commands a wealth of global experience in power systems on both the technical and managerial level, and his expertise will greatly benefit the worldwide ICA Network."
As Director, Mr. Bittencourt will be responsible for identifying and addressing opportunities to increase copper demand at all stages of electrical generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption.
Bittencourt earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering at the Federal School of Engineering of Itajubá, Itajubá, Brazil.
The ICA is the leading organization for promoting the use of copper globally, inspiring the world about copper's essentiality for health, technology, and the quality of life. Headquartered in New York, ICA has regional offices in Brussels, New York, Santiago, and Singapore. The Association's 37 members represent about 80% of the worlds refined copper output and are among the largest copper producers, fabricators, and wire and cable companies.
