Copper Wins Bronze!
International Copper Association Wins Public Relations "Bronze Anvil"
Award Of Commendation
 New
York, NY (June 18, 2002) - The International Copper Association
has won the Public Relations Society of America's 2002 Bronze Anvil
Award of Commendation, which recognizes the best use of creative
tactics in a public relations campaign. The award was announced
during a special awards ceremony in New York.
"We are pleased to recognize ICA with a Bronze Anvil Award of Commendation for its
outstanding creativity in developing a tactical solution to a public
relations challenge," said Kelly Womer, chairman of the 2002 Bronze
Anvil Awards. "More than 1,100 entries from across the country were
received this year, but only the best of the best were given this
special honor."
ICA received the Bronze Anvil Award of Commendation for the complete
redesign of its new Internet site, www.copperinfo.com, launched
in December 2001.
"We wanted to convey to consumers the many positive ways that copper
influences our daily lives," said Liz Smith, ICA's vice president
of communications.
On the site, home pages feature stories that reveal how "Copper
Connects LifeTM" throughout a day, referring to the organization's
new tagline, which is an integral part of its new branding campaign.
Rotating stories use photos to illustrate how copper is necessary
to stay healthy, is used virtually everywhere, and plays an important
role both today and tomorrow.
"ICA's goal is to demonstrate to consumers the importance of copper
in the fastest information technologies, the smartest buildings,
the most efficient power systems, and the most modern modes of transportation,"
said Smith.
Contemporary images of fast trains, thin laptops, cell phones, modern
cars, smart and beautiful homes, and nutritious foods, engage visitors
to the site with simple explanations delivering key messages that
copper is safe, clean, reliable, and essential. Visitors can also
surf to more than 200 attractively designed stories that illustrate
how copper is a vital material for the 21st century. Those with
advanced informational needs can easily link to the Newsroom and
Professionals sections, or to the regional copper development centers
and external Web sites.
"We wanted to show that copper is an environmentally friendly and
sustainable material that helps to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse
gases. We also wanted people to know that copper is an essential
dietary mineral, and that its natural antimicrobial properties have
important public health benefits," said Smith. "Our goal is to ensure
that www.copperinfo.com remains the best virtual address for the
global community to learn about the uses and benefits of copper."
ICA is the leading organization for promoting the use of copper
worldwide. ICA increases awareness and usage of copper worldwide
by communicating the unique attributes that make this sustainable
element an essential contributor to the formation of life, to advances
in science and technology, and to a higher standard of living worldwide.
The Association's 35 members represent about 80 percent of the world's
refined copper output and are among the world's largest copper producers,
fabricators, and wire and cable companies.
