Bus bars are typically used in high current, low voltage distribution
and control equipment. Typical bus bar applications include
busway systems, low and medium voltage switchgear, panel boards,
switchboards, and feeds to heavy electrical uses in commercial
and industrial buildings - such as plating cells and feeder
systems.
Bus bars can be made from copper or aluminum, but the copper
bus bars are the better electrical conductors. Because of copper's
greater electrical conductivity, installers can use smaller
bus bars if they are made with copper.
The higher the current requirements, the more likely the bus
bar will be made from copper. Copper bus bars have better resistance
to corrosion than aluminum bus bars, and the copper bus bars
work better in dirty environments. |
