Your car's motor runs smoother and lasts longer
because of copper.
When added to motor oils, soluble copper reduces damaging oxidation.
In a fully formulated crankcase lubricant, copper is added in small
amounts in combination with the ashless dispersant zinc dialkyldithiophosphate
(ZDDP) and a metal detergent.
Exxon Chemical Corporation, which supplies most of the world's major
motor oil formulators with copper-containing lubricant additives,
considers the discovery of copper's lubricant actions in motor oils
to be one of the most significant inventions in 20th Century crankcase
additive chemistry. The invention is particularly important in recent
years as engine temperatures increased and cost-effective oxidation
control has become absolutely essential. |
