Copper and its alloys have enhanced the exteriors of fine homes
and landscapes for hundreds of years. The Versailles Palace
of King Louis XIV was adorned with copper.
Today, copper and copper alloys can be found in garden gates,
trellises, fences, arbors, bird baths, obelisks, decorative
lawn sprinklers, and fanciful downspouts.
The classic weathervanes, originally invented by the Romans,
are made of sheet copper. They are light, easy to work with,
and do not rust. Rare weathervanes can appreciate tremendously
in value - one was sold at auction for $770,000 - sparking a
booming business in reproductions of classic designs. |
