Building Products -> Air Conditioning

The use of copper in air conditioning and refrigeration (ACR) has grown steadily in recent years. Stringent new requirements in the ACR industry, including demands for increased operating efficiency and the reduction or elimination of harmful emissions, have led to a new appreciation for copper's role in product enhancement.

The Copper Development Association (in the USA) has instituted a program to provide critical information to individuals and companies active in the development, manufacturing, or installation of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. The program, called Copper in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, offers a range of research and development assistance on materials compatibility, fabricating and joining methods, heat transfer properties, effects of refrigerants and lubricants on copper system performance, safety, testing and predictive methods, and screening procedures. CDA also interacts with government agencies to obtain funding for basic and selected research. For more information about CDA's copper in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program, go to http://www.copper.org.
